Middle School Principal
Spring time is fast approaching
Wow, time flies when you are having fun. Since the last time I typed, Bremond Middle School competed in our UIL Academic competition and although we did not win first place overall, we had many teams that placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. We also had several students place in the individual events. I was very proud of how everyone competed and I am going to recognize our students at an UIL Awards Ceremony on February 29th at 1:30 in the new Teacher’s Forum. We hope that you will be able to attend and help us celebrate our student’s success.
Basketball season just finished and I was very pleased with the improvement I witnessed from the beginning of the season to the end of the season. I saw hustle the whole game and I hope that the competitive spirit carries over to the track and better yet, to the classroom. Track starts on February 24th and the track season schedule can be found here. We have some very gifted athletes in Bremond and the track is a great place for them to show those abilities. Hope to see you at the track.
The Robertson County Fair is fastly approaching and I look forward to watching our students exhibit their Science Fair and animal projects. Having taught Agriculture before I became a Principal, and having shown animals since I was nine years old, I know the excitement of what the fair brings. My son has his first pig this year, which he has named “Sister” because she is a part of the family. I hope to see you at the fair.
Academically, teachers and students are working hard preparing for the new STAAR test. Our first round of STAAR test will be March 26th-28th and we will finish them April 24th-27th. It is important that your student get a good night’s rest before each test and they get a good breakfast that morning so they can focus on the task at hand.
Here is the STAAR testing schedule:
March 27th - 8th Grade Mathematics and 7th Grade Writing (1st day)
March 28th - 8th Grade Reading and 7th Grade Writing (2nd day)
April 24th- 6th and 7th Grade Mathematics
April 25th- 6th and 7th Grade Reading
April 26th- 8th Grade Science
April 27th- 8th Grade Social Studies
There are three main differences in the STAAR test compared to the old TAKS test. The STAAR test has more questions and the questions are more difficult. The other big difference is that our students will have four hours to complete the test. Here are some resources that the Texas Education Agency has released concerning the STAAR test. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
I look forward to this Spring and the challenges it brings. Thanks for all that you do.
