Welcome to 4th Grade
Welcome to Mrs. Conner's 4th Grade Classroom
I can't believe it is already time to start back to school. Summers always fly by!
I am excited to get this year started. This is my 14th year teaching and my 3rd year here at Bremond Elementary. This year I will be teaching Reading, Language Arts and Social Studies for all 4th grade students. Here are a few details for each of the subjects this year:
Reading: All students will be required to read 2 chapter books each 6 weeks. They will need to complete 1 book prior to progress reports and 1 prior to the report card period. We will allow some time in class for reading (approximately 1 hour per week) but outside time for reading is very important. Students will take AR tests on the books that they read. These will be recorded as test grades.
Language Arts: This year we will focus on writing skills. Students will be learning how to write an effective, easy to follow expository essay as well as personal narratives. Please encourage your child to write at home as well. They can keep a journal to write about their everyday activities or journal about the books they are reading!
Social Studies: This year's focus for social studies is Texas History. This is the first history class that your child will ever take, so it may be a little challenging for them to remember important people and dates. We will create a social studies journal with all of these important events and people and students will be able to use these journals on test days.
If you should have any questions please feel free to contact me (254) 746-7145. My conference period is 7th period, 1:40 to 2:25. You can also email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
I look forward to an outstanding year.
READING: 1st 6 weeks
We will be reading Because of Winn Dixie as a class during weeks 5 and 6. We will complete assignments in class and AR test on the book. We will also watch the movie when we are finished with the book! This is a heart warming story about the struggles of a young girl by Kate DiCamarillo, a wonderful child author!
