Presented by the 2nd Grade Class 2014
The Second Graders performed their end of year play titled "The Picnic" on May 28. This play was an environmental play. The challenges of our environmental problems are apparent to anyone who picks up a newspaper or listens to a newscast. This play touches on four areas of environmental concern - air, land, water, and animal life - and challenges children tomake a difference. Environmentally sound habits need to start with our children. We need to teach them to be caretakers of our Earth by helping them view their daily activities from an Earth-safe perspective. Can this container be recycled? Why are there so many layers of packaging on that product? Do we need to use chemical pesticides? This play meshes well with the second grade science unit on the environment and can help bring environmental awareness to the forefront of a child's mind. Hopefully it will act as a catalyst for analytical thinking about practices at home.
